Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.
- Exodus 3:7–13 (KJV)

Study:

In this passage, we meet Moses at a turning point—tending sheep in isolation yet on the brink of a divine encounter. God reveals Himself through the burning bush, calling Moses to a purpose far beyond his self-imposed exile. This story highlights how God often meets us in unexpected places and chooses ordinary people to fulfill extraordinary missions. Despite Moses' feelings of inadequacy, God reassures him and appoints him as His messenger to deliver the Israelites from bondage.

Application:

Like Moses, we too might question our worthiness or doubt our ability to serve God when faced with new challenges or unfamiliar settings. Yet this passage reminds us that God calls each of us personally, even when we feel unqualified or overwhelmed. He equips and sends us into the wilderness of life’s new seasons to be His instruments of hope and deliverance. Trusting God means saying, "Who, Me? Yes, You!" with faith, stepping forward confidently into the tasks He assigns.

Reflection Questions:

  • Have you ever felt unqualified for the task God has called you to? How did you respond?
  • In what ways might God be preparing you in your 'wilderness' season for a greater purpose?
  • What excuses or fears might be holding you back from answering God’s call today?
  • How can you cultivate trust in God’s presence and guidance when entering new challenges?
  • Who around you might God be calling to step into something new, and how could you support them?

Prayer:

Lord, just as You called Moses from the desert to lead Your people, call me now to the work You have prepared for me. Help me to overcome my doubts and fears. Empower me with Your Spirit to say, "Yes, Lord, I will go," trusting that You will be with me every step of the way. Amen.
