- Matthew 15:21–28 (KJV)

Study:

In this passage, we read about a Canaanite woman who persistently seeks Jesus to heal her demon-possessed daughter. Despite initial silence and being told that Jesus' mission was to the lost sheep of Israel, she does not give up. Jesus tests her faith by saying it is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to the dogs. Yet, she cleverly and humbly replies that even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table. Moved by her faith and persistence, Jesus grants her request and heals her daughter. This story highlights the power of unwavering faith and persistent prayer, even in the face of discouragement or apparent rejection.

Application:

Today, we can learn that persistence in prayer and faith is essential. When answers seem delayed or doors appear closed, we are encouraged to keep trusting God and approaching Him boldly. Just like the Canaanite woman, our faith combined with persistence can break through barriers. God notices our steadfastness and is moved to respond. Therefore, we should never be discouraged by silence or initial rejection but continue to believe and pray with confidence.

Reflection Questions:

  • How do I respond when my prayers seem unanswered or delayed?
  • What can I learn from the faith and humility of the Canaanite woman?
  • In what areas of my life do I need to show greater persistence in prayer?
  • How can I encourage others to not give up in their faith journey?

Prayer:

Lord, grant me the strength to be persistent in prayer and faith. Help me to trust You deeply, even when it feels like You are silent. May I approach You with humility and confidence, believing that You hear and will answer according to Your perfect will. Amen.
