Scripture Focus: Iuta 1:1–4
Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:
- Jude 1:1–4 (KJV)
Study:
The book of Jude is a brief but powerful letter emphasizing the need to defend the faith once delivered to the saints. Jude introduces himself as a servant of Jesus Christ and reminds believers of their sanctification and preservation through God the Father and Jesus Christ. The call to contend for the faith highlights the reality that false teachings and ungodly influences threaten the purity of the Christian gospel. Jude’s message urges believers to stand firm, knowing their identity is secure in Christ and that they have been called to live in truth.
Application:
Today, we face many challenges that can dilute or distort the gospel message. Just as Jude encouraged the early church, we too must be vigilant and proactive in guarding our faith. This means knowing Scripture deeply, discerning truth from error, and lovingly correcting misunderstandings where necessary. Being preserved in Christ gives us the confidence to stand firm without fear. Our faith is not something to passively hold but actively defend, reflecting the call to contend for the faith in our daily lives.
Reflection Questions:
- Do I understand the core truths of the Christian faith that need defending?
- In what ways might I be called to stand firm against false teachings?
- How can I grow in my knowledge of Scripture to better defend my faith?
- Am I actively living out the faith for which I am called and preserved in Christ?
- How can I encourage others to contend earnestly for the faith?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, help me to stand firm in the faith You have given. Strengthen my heart to contend for the truth with love and wisdom. Preserve me in Your grace and guide me to grow deeper in Your Word each day. May I be a faithful witness, defending the gospel and encouraging others to do the same. In Your mighty name, Amen.
